Does temporary email expire? The 10-minute timer, explained

Updated October 11, 2026 · TossMyMail

TossMyMail inboxes begin with 10 minutes. The countdown reflects a server-enforced expiration time, so leaving the page open does not keep an expired address working.

Extend before the timer ends

+10 minutes adds time to the same address, up to a maximum total lifetime of 30 minutes from creation. The server enforces this cap. Expired inboxes cannot be extended or recovered.

Access ends before cleanup

At expiry, reading the inbox is blocked and new incoming mail is rejected. A scheduled cleanup removes expired inbox records and their messages approximately every five minutes. The countdown is an access deadline, not a promise that every stored copy disappears at that exact second.

Refresh versus close

A refresh in the same browser tab restores the active inbox using session storage. Closing the tab normally removes that browser access information, though browser session restoration can vary. The server inbox still follows its original timer. A new address replaces and deletes the previous inbox.

Plan for future access

Temporary email is suitable for a one-time download or a low-stakes test. Use permanent email for purchases, banking, password recovery and accounts you will need later. Saving a code does not preserve future access to the account’s emails.

What each button does

Can I recover an expired temporary email?

No. You cannot use a saved address or old code to reopen it. If a signup still needs email, ask the site whether you can change the address or start again with an inbox you can keep.

Save the file or notes you need before the timer ends. A screenshot of an address is not a backup of its inbox.
